Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House is a community based non-profit organization that offers comprehensive services to the youth, adults, seniors and families of Western Queens. Our mission is to build and strengthen communities in Western Queens and act as a catalyst for change.
Riis Settlement works to support individuals who reside in the Queensbridge and Ravenswood Houses and the overall Western Queens community as they build productive and self-sufficient lives. Through three program areas, we provide vital services to over 450 people a day and approximately 10,000 during the course of the year.

Volunteering at Riis Settlement is a three-step process:
- Fill out an application to become an approved Riis Settlement Volunteer. Click here or on the "Volunteer Application" tab above.
- After you submit your application, you will be contacted by a Riis Volunteer Coordinator to come in for an interview. Following an interview and background check, you may be approved to be a Volunteer.
- Once you are an approved Volunteer, you can select the program, event, or shift for which you would like to volunteer. To see a partial list of volunteer jobs and shifts, click on the "Volunteer Jobs" tab above.
